About me - Günter Götzer - Hobby entomologist

I first came into contact with the world of entomology when I was ten years old. My best friend's grandfather already had an extensive collection of butterflies with specimens from all over the world. As children, we were fascinated by the shapes and colors of butterflies and beetles. We studied various rudimentary shapes and observed the insects in the woods and meadows through our closeness to nature. Later on, I lost interest and did not pursue the subject any further. However, the first observations of hawkmoths and the search for cicadas burned themselves into my memory as a child and never left me.

After many years, I decided to take up butterfly collecting again and started with simple material and taught myself how to mount. Every beginning is difficult but after a short time I mastered the entry hurdles and developed a keen interest in entomology.

Over the last decade, I have built up a very extensive collection from various families and perfected my collecting. My main areas are exotic butterflies of the subfamily Papilio and Charaxes.

However, as is probably the case with every enthusiastic butterfly collector, it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain rare specimens and the size of the collection is becoming time-consuming to maintain. So I decided to go online and sell parts of my collection to continue financing my hobby.

I still enjoy making new contacts and friends and exchanging ideas. I look forward to every personal conversation or e-mail.

Graphic observation and perfection in mounting butterflies

Thanks to my graphic design studies and interest in art, I have always had an eye for shapes and color. Symmetry, patterns and details have always fascinated me. I quickly specialized in stretching butterflies and continue to perfect the stretching process. I still try to pay full respect to each specimen and to reflect the symmetry of the butterflies in the best possible way.

IDENTIFICATION OF BUTTERFLIES

If there is still some time left besides mounting and sorting as well as cataloging, I deal with the identification of butterflies of exotic species. I am fascinated by the diversity of nature and the differentiation of subspecies in particular challenges me. Identifying butterflies is possible for everyone and can be done easily with literature and online research.
